Night Crying Tips - Imagine a Good Night Sleep

Imagine a Good Night Sleep

It's night time. You made it through the day with your baby. It was fun, difficult, satisfying - all together. Now, you finally put her to bed, catch some dinner among the baby dishes, a quick shower and off to bed. A good night sleep is ahead. Yah, right...!

Your baby wakes up every couple of hours crying? You're not alone. Most babies do so in their first weeks and months of their lives. Those few babies who sleep throughout the night early on... well, it only happens to others and I can only assume they will find another way to disturb their parents in the future :)

Anyway, when a baby wakes up crying, it's not only to disturb your sleep. The baby is trying to tell you something. If you still haven't, I suggest you first read the Why Babies Cry page - it will help you better understand the reasons. In this page, I will list and edit tips from my own experience and from you the readers.

A Tip A Day

As with all the tips in this Crying Baby Tips website, you are invited to read one tip a day. Taking up more than that on three hours of sleep a night doesn't seem logical. So, take one tip and come back tomorrow. Also, to help you file those tips in your sleep deprived brain, I named them with an effort to become more handy and perhaps bring a smile to face...

When you're done with your night time, I invite you to browse through the Day Crying Baby Tips. I hope it will give you some ideas to brighten up your baby's day. And yours.

Night Crying Baby Tips

Entourage Lights

When comforting your baby at the middle of the night, you sometimes understand it's going to take a while. That's no wonder considering the medical fact that falling into deep sleep takes an average of twenty minutes. So, you ask yourself, why shouldn't I watch TV while I rock her to sleep? Many will tell you - no, it will attract her attention away from sleeping, which could be true. Now, here's the tip - have the baby face you and look at your face. In a dark room (that's a requirement), the lights from the screen will shed colors and shades on your face, making it interesting enough for the baby to focus on, but not too much to keep her awake. You watch Entourage on low volume (soft quite sounds shouldn't be a problem) and so you don't fall asleep yourself, you will find your baby asleep by the end to episode, and - what do you know - you got a few minutes of amusement to yourself. So, next time you need to put her back to sleep in the middle of the night, remember the Entourage Lights Crying Baby Tip!

Woody Allen Tea

I'm your baby loves drinking a bottle in the middle of the night. It calms her down and it's an easy solution sometimes, you got to give her that. But, there are many arguments against midnight bottles, starting with teeth health (when they get their first tiny teeth, you don't want to cote them with sugar for the night), going through partial addictions to night-time milk, an on to the ultimate - when would it stop? One bottle? Two? Four bottles a night? So, the next time you think your baby had enough bottles and she still wakes up crying for a sip, get he a Woody Allen Tea. Huh? Well, Woody Allen once said: "
I don't think my parents liked me. They put a live teddy bear in my crib." In the same spirit, you can imagine that when they young Woody tea, it was without sugar or tea in it... and here's the tip - try a bottle with warm water. Many times, warm water will give your baby all the soothing she needs and after a few sips she will go back to sleep. If it doesn't work the first time, do it in stages; start with diluted milk and reduce the doses in stages night after night, until you get to warm water only. With time, you can even leave a bottle in bed and your baby will learn to pick it up by herself, drink some water and go back to sleep without crying at all. Thanks, Woody!
